Rijksmuseum - Teekenschool
On 16 October you can visit some workshops in the Rijksmuseum’s ‘Teekenschool’. The Rijksmuseum’s multidisciplinary education centre is housed inside the historic drawing school known as the ‘Teekenschool’. After the renovation, the former school building has regained its original function as a place where people can pursue and develop their talents. The restored building is poised to be the largest centre for museum education in the Netherlands. Its three modern studios host a wide spectrum of activities, organized under the motto: ‘learning to look by doing’.

Jean School – House of Denim
In 2012, the doors of the first and only Jean School in the world opened in Amsterdam. A unique, innovative campus in De Hallen in Amsterdam-West that also offers accommodation to the Blue lab, a laundry and the denim-archive. Young, creative and driven people will learn the craftsmanship of denim design and development. This education literally provides them with job opportunities all over the world.

Globally, Amsterdam has the largest density of denim brands such as G-Star RAW and Scotch & Soda. Brands like Tommy Hilfiger and Calvin Klein have their head offices in Amsterdam. This means there is a continuous demand for denim talent in the Netherlands or Dutch talent in the rest of the world.

Jan des Bouvrie College
Jan des Bouvrie College
is located in the heart of Amsterdam, near the cultural and inspiring centre of the Museumplein. Jan des Bouvrie College is a unique and creative school where students are trained to become advisors, sales specialists or managers in the industries of Fashion and Interior. A diverse range of courses is offered on the levels 3 and 4 of Dutch vocational education.

Students learn by doing. Concept development, projects with real customers and deadlines combined with flexible learning. Creative assignments, inspiring field trips, guest lectures and the making of concepts and mood boards stimulate students to develop their own creative style. At Jan des Bouvrie College students study economics, practise to run their own store and keep their own administration.

Fieldlabs
Fieldlabs, “Healthcare in the neighbourhood in the 21st century”, focuses on a better connection between education and the work field. The Fieldlabs concept is translated into a collaboration between the VET college ROC of Amsterdam and Hof van Sloten, a nursing home for dementia, rehabilitation and long-term care for the elderly. Practice-based education and education that is in line with current events in healthcare.

The principles that are used:

  • The workplace is the source of learning and thus becomes a learning workplace;
  • Students are included in a team as a ‘colleague-in-training' and can experience the work as it occurs in practice;
  • Practice-oriented, neighbourhood-oriented and on location; this is central to the entire learning environment;
  • Teachers and colleagues from the work field, work closely together to ensure that the student learns optimally.

The College Hotel
The College Hotel Amsterdam
is housed in a stylish 19th-century building which started life as a school in 1895. The hotel and restaurant continue to contribute to the development of talent even today; the staff consists of students from various colleges and it is managed by experienced professionals. The College Hotel Amsterdam is a unique concept where, in addition to taking care of an unforgettable stay, it is all about the hands-on training of Young Professionals in the hospitality sector. The ratio of employees and students is 60% / 40%. The students are supervised and coached at all departments. The employees do this passionately and are trained to fulfil this important role. The College Hotel is proud to work closely together with the VET college ROC of Amsterdam for many years in a row.

Het Amsterdamse Proeflokaal
Het Amsterdamse Proeflokaal
is part of the House of Hospitality, a partnership between the business community, knowledge institutions and the Municipality of Amsterdam to structurally increase the hospitality level in Amsterdam. This starts with educating the new generation of hospitality talents: students with a heart for hospitality and service. That is why Het Amsterdamse Proeflokaal works together with students from the VET college ROC of Amsterdam.

These students can follow two different courses. They can choose to become a restaurant host or chef. Education takes place 7 days a week, 365 days a year, mainly on the work floor (with and without guests). Students are being guided and coached by experienced teachers and instructors. A unique way of education where the student can put the taught into immediate action.

MBO College Westpoort
MBO College Westpoort offers a wide range of study programmes and is the place to be for technical education on vocational level in Amsterdam.
Many of our study programmes have been designed in close collaboration with businesses, trade associations and the city of Amsterdam. Internships in companies are compulsory for all students, starting in their first year of school.
Who can express better what our school is like than our own students? Come in and meet three of them. They will provide you with a hands on tour in technical education. Spray paint a car door, finalize an electrical installation and admire our state of the art solar boat!

Youngworks
Youngworks
is one of the leading communication agencies in the Netherlands with the focus on youngsters. Since 20 years they follow what youngsters do, think and what they want. They adapt everything about the youth. Watch what they watch and do what they do. Because they know a lot about youngsters, they can tell you how to talk to them. So, what can you say and what can you not say to them; in which sequence and how to do that. It doesn’t matter whether you’re an A-brand, a school, an employer or from a government.
Youngworks love to show their company and some of their showcases. They are curious about your experiences with youngsters as well, so they will not only give you a tour around the office, but they also plan an interactive session to exchange each other’s experiences.
